Fans get big surprise at this year’s FanFest

SAN FRANCISCO – The Giants held their annual FanFest on Saturday after their four-month offseason. Over 30,000 people piled into AT&T Park for autographs, question-and- answer sessions and on-field interviews.

Mark Melancon was a fan favorite at the FanFest. The new closer was given applause during a Q-and-A when he mentioned that he was drafted out of high school by the Dodgers but did not sign with the rival team.

The Q-and-A opened to fans, and a young boy asked  players about their favorite ice cream flavors. Catcher Buster Posey and pitching coach Dave Righetti chose vanilla, and right-hander Jeff Samardzija was applauded after picking cookies n’ cream. Brandon Crawford compared his man bun to Posey’s short hairdo and, right-hander Derek Law entertained the crowd with a rap routine.

Autographs are the favorite FanFest activity, and this year’s came with a surprise. Giants legend Barry Bonds decided to stop by AT&T Park on his bike ride and surprise the fans with autographs and pictures. What better way to kick off a season?
