BRADENTON, Fla. – The Pittsburgh Pirates may have to start spring training without their third baseman Jung Ho Kang.
Kang was arrested in South Korea in December for driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.
Pirates president Frank Coonelly released a statement Tuesday stating that “Jung Ho will not be in a position to report to camp by the 17th.”
Kang, who will stand trial on Feb. 22 in the South Korean capital, Seoul, is charged with driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.084 percent, above South Korea’s 0.05 percent limit. Since 2009, Kang has been arrested three times in South Korea.
“We will continue to do whatever we canto assist he and his representatives in their efforts to resolve all necessary matters,” said Coonelly.
