GOODYEAR, Ariz.—Reds starting catcher Tucker Barnhart has had an eventful two days of spring training. In 2016, the 26-year-old hit .257 with seven homers and 51 RBIs in 115 games for Cincinnati in 2016. His 23 doubles ranked sixth on the team for the season behind Joey Votto, Phillips, Adam Duvall, Zack Cozart and Eugenio Suarez.
Barnhart, a fan favorite, began work-outs in Goodyear, Arizona on Monday. While teammates Jesse Winker and Jose Peraza posed with flowers for the Reds snapchat story, Barnhart made a Valentine’s Day announcement via Twitter. Barnhart told followers he and wife Sierra are expecting a baby this September.
