Catchers dominate in first Cardinals win

JUPITER, Fla.—The catching combination of Eric Fryer and Yadier Molina drove in four runs in the second inning to win 7-4, avenging Saturday’s loss to the Miami Marlins.

Coming together for the first win of 2017, the duo pushed the Cardinals to victory with their bats. Fryer, who re-signed with the Cardinals as a non-roster player for this year due to a waiver claim to Pittsburgh last year, drove in two runs with a single in the second inning. He also had a triple and scored a run. Molina, serving as a designated hitter, drove in two more runs in the second with a two-run double.

Mike Mayers was also impressive as the starting pitcher, retiring all six Marlins he faced.

The Cardinals return to play Monday, Feb. 27, against the Boston Red Sox at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Florida.
