GOODYEAR, Ariz. – February meant a lot more than spring training to one Cleveland player this year. Edwin Encarnacion, who went from the Blue Jays, to free agency, to the newest member of the Tribe this off-season, proposed to his then-girlfriend Karen Yapport on Valentine’s Day.
Encarnacion who is known for his strength, his 310 career home runs, and his serious demeanor, according to USA Today, can now be known as a hopeless romantic too.
On Valentine’s Day, Encarnacion posted a picture of Yapport, a Dominican model and TV personality, overcome with emotion as she looks at the words, “Te Casas Conmigo?” which translates to “Will you marry me?” in Spanish.
She said yes. The post drew over 40,000 likes and 1,500 comments and Encarnacion said he did everything himself.
“I kind of earned my decorator degree with that one,” Encarnacion, the Indian’s new DH-first baseman told USA TODAY. “People don’t believe it was my idea because they don’t know that side of me.”
Encarnacion went 2-for-2 in his Indians debut against the Reds on Saturday. The slugger gone romantic delivered the club’s first run of the spring season in an 8-2 Cactus League win.
