TEMPE, Ariz. – Right-hander Yusmeiro Petit set out at Tempe Diablo Stadium on Saturday with ambition and optimism.
His goal of the day? To create a strong spot for himself on the pitching staff to help ensure his position and prepare for the World Baseball Classic, according to the MLB website.
The 32-year-old started, giving up one hit and striking out two- a breeze through two innings. Petit played a major role in the team’s first win against the Brewers in their Cactus League opener.
Petit felt good about his performance on Saturday and appreciated the team for giving him a chance. He recently signed a Minor League with the Angels.
He is hoping to ensure a position in the team’s starting rotation, however his chances are looking towards a position as a reliever.
Petit will not have the entire spring training season to make an impression on the Angels. He will be at camp until March 7, so let’s hope he can make some more noteworthy moves on the field just as he did on Saturday.
