FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Twins continue to honor pitching prospect Yorman Landa, who died in a car accident on Dec 10.
The 22-year-old starter was at home in Venezuela when he was killed.
Landa was known as a kind teammate who was widely respected for his durability. He pitched often, logging more innings than many of his teammates and earning him the nickname Donkey because of his endurance.
This year, all Twins minor league players and coaches will wear red bracelets. The bands read, “Always with us, Donkey.”
In addition, the bands contain a Bible verse, Isaiah 41:10, which reads, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
The Twins will also honor Landa by wearing a special patch on their opening day uniforms.
