MESA, Ariz. — The Chicago Cubs roster went down to 43 on Friday, cutting a total of seven players.
The players cut, according to Cubbies Crib, were not surprising to fans. Outfielder Jacob Hannemann, catcher Victor Caratini and pitchers Pierce Johnson and Felix Pena were optioned to Iowa. Infielder Chesny Young, outfielders Mark Zagunis and top prospect Eloy Jimenez, however, were assigned to minor league camp.
The Cubs still have a good outlook for the 2017 season and could still pull through even after the roster cuts.
