FORT MYERS, Fla. — Drew Pomeranz left yesterday’s game after two innings with “triceps tightness” in his throwing arm.
The Sox called the move a precautionary measure, but with star pitcher David Price already on the disabled list to start the season, the call raises alarm.
Pomeranz received an experimental stem cell injection to promote healing in his flexor tendon in October. Though he said he felt 100 percent during preseason sessions, Sunday’s performance was lacking. Pomeranz gave up three runs, one on a solo homer, walking three and striking out none.
The Sox had the opportunity to rescind the Pomeranz deal after the Padres withheld his injury history, but they elected not to.
With Price and Pomeranz on injured status, Kyle Kendrick will likely start the season as pitcher.
