Buffalo, N.Y.– “When the fans come and have fun from the promotions, [the organization] has fun,” says Brad Bisbing, director of marketing and public relations.
The Buffalo Bisons are the Triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. Bisbing, who was promoted in January, is entering his 14th season with the team. After earning a broadcast journalism degree from Ithaca College he began doing sports radio. “It just wasn’t for me,” Bisbing noted. Shortly after leaving sports radio, he was hired by the Bisons prior the the 2004 season as public relations assistant.
Bisbing discussed what the offseason was like saying they plan for the things they can handle, like promotions and other stadium activities. “[The organization] doesn’t have a say on who plays,” so they have to stay focused on the other things, he said. When new players come to Buffalo Bisbing and his staff work hard to make them comfortable and “take away their worries,” he said. That might include finding them somewhere to live, or how to get to and from the ballpark everyday.
When asked about the most challenging part of his job, Bisbing simply said, “the hours.” He went on to talk about how he’s always at the ballpark, and this being a job that is really your life. “But I love what I do, so I can’t complain,” he said.
The Bisons are celebrating their 30th season at Coca-Cola Field in downtown Buffalo this year. Brad Bisbing and his staff have many promotional events to commemorate such an achievement. Bisbing is excited for the start of the season and is hopeful the team will play well.
