In an ideal world Charlie Sheen would wear skull glasses, a black turtle neck and an old Indian’s cap, walk to the mound, and pitch the opening pitch of the 2017 Cleveland Indians’ season.
Sheen starred in the 1989 film Major League, playing Indians closer Ricky Vaughn. And last year as the Indians clinched the American League pennant, a wave of fans called for him to throw out the first pitch at the World Series.
Sheen said he would be honored. The Indians, on the other hand, said the team was not entertaining the notion, according to the Clevelander.
Fans rallied around Sheen, but the pitch was never thrown. Is now the time for the second Ricky Vaughn to finally throw a pitch? I think yes.
Because in my head, the only thing that will be missing at Progressive Field on April 11 is the tune “Wild Thing” and a Major League quality first pitch by the one and only Charlie Sheen.
CLEVELAND, Ohio – For the 25th consecutive year, the Tribe has sold out their homeowner tickets – and this year they did so in a record 3 minutes.
Tickets for the Cleveland Indians’ 2017 home opener against the Chicago White Sox on April 11 went on sale at 10 a.m. on March 6. Last season, the team sold out its supply for the opener in 40 minutes, according to Cleveland.com. The year before, it only took 11 minutes.
MESA, Ariz. – Just three months after the Chicago Cubs left Progressive Field with a game-seven World Series win against the Cleveland Indians, the teams rematched in the sunny south.
The teams found themselves again in a ninth-inning stalemate, but this time had the option to not play any extra innings. The score knotted at 1-1 in front of a sellout crowd of 15,388.
Cleveland Indians Danny Salazar threw 2 shutout innings, allowed one hit and tallied three strikeouts. According to Cleveland.com Salazar resisted the temptation to daydream about what could’ve been in the postseason if he had been healthy.
“I didn’t think too much about that,” Salazar said. “Baseball is crazy sometimes. The way things happened, that was the way it was supposed to happen.”
Salzar promised fans that a good year is in store. This game was merely a Sunday matinee on a sunny day, but when the regular season matchup between the rivals comes on March 24 the story may be a little different.
